“little people”不能解释为“没多少人”

He suspected that there are little people living at the end of the garden.【误译】他怀疑花园的尽头没有多少人住。

【正确】他怀疑花园的尽头住有小妖精。

说明：little people与fairies同义，意为“（神话中的）小妖精（们）”。

如果知道people作“人”解时是个复数名词而非不可数名词，就不会把little people译作“没有多少人”，因为little作“没有多少”解时只能修饰不可数名词。

所以little people中的little作“小的”解才对。
